Anelka Wins Etihad Player of the Month for November
Congratulations to Nicolas Anelka who has been named as the Etihad Airways Player of the Month for November. In a month where Chelsea dropped vital points in the race for the Premiership, the Frenchman showed his class and experience on a number of occasions.
Nicolas grabbed the only goal of the game during a tough trip away to an experienced Porto outfit. This ensured that Chelsea qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League as group winners.
When Everton were the visitors to the Bridge, Anelka rifled one home from close range, during a six-goal thriller.
He is a long way off equaling his 25 goals scored for Chelsea last season, but it is clear from his performances this month, that Anelka still has a crucial role to play in Chelsea’s title ambitions this season.

England and Chelsea star crowned the Etihad Airways Player of the Month award for October
Chelsea fans have had their say on who should win the Etihad Airways Player of the Month award for October 2009, which has gone to vice captain, Frank Lampard.
Lampard’s defensive contributions helped Chelsea to an inspired 2 – 0 win over Liverpool at The Bridge. Chelsea went into the two week international break with a two point cushion at the top of the Premiership.
In Europe, Chelsea had a comfortable 4 – 0 victory over Athletico Madrid. In a game that saw Frank score his first goal in 11 games, he created a number of chances for others going forward, and was an ever present authority in the middle of the park. The goal that put Lampard back in the scoring groove came on 68 minutes and it was a trademark effort if ever there was one. Taking possession outside the area, he hit it sweetly and low, into the bottom corner.
A Lampard double helped Chelsea to a 5 – 0 win over Blackburn at The Bridge. A poor clearance from the Blackburn defence allowed Frank to slam the ball home from 12 yards out. Didier Drogba was felled in the box on 58 minutes, by Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen, and referee Alan Wiley pointed to the spot. This allowed Lampard to step up and smash the ball down the middle for his second of the game.
In a trip to the Reebok Stadium, The Blues had been on top from the beginning. They found no way past the superb Jussi Jaaskelainen, until Didier Drogba was hauled down in first half injury-time by Jlloyd Samuel. The defender was red-carded, allowing Frank Lampard to fire home the opener from the spot, before Chelsea took full advantage of the extra man in the second period with an entertaining display. With five wins from six, and 20 goals, this capped off a fine month for Chelsea and Lampard’s consistent performances helped him to scoop the award for Etihad Airways Player of the Month. |
