Etihad Airways has been Manchester City Football Club’s main club partner since May, 2009. During that time the club has enjoyed considerable success, including its first FA Cup win since 1969 in the 2010-2011 season. The relationship with Manchester City Football Club has gone from strength to strength with the recent announcement of a 10 year partnership.
The stadium has been renamed as the Etihad Stadium, forming the centre piece of a newly-named Etihad Campus, which encompasses a large part of the Sportcity site in East Manchester, the popular City Square entertainment space and additional existing and planned facilities.
In July of this year, Etihad unveiled the new Manchester City FC liveried aircraft, which was named ‘Blue Moon Rising’. This aircraft was then used to fly the Manchester City team to the USA & Canada for their pre-season tour. The aircraft, which will operate regularly on the Abu Dhabi to Manchester route, will also serve other destinations in Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region.
In Abu Dhabi, Etihad continues to develop grass roots sport, with the Etihad Airways Manchester City Soccer Schools that takes place each year. More than 600 children, aged between 7 and 14 years old participate from local and international schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Manchester City coaches are on hand to pass on their knowledge, skills and coaching techniques to not only help develop football in Abu Dhabi, but also the UAE’s growing reputation in world sport.
